Ephraim Sisco

All the following information is, for now, just speculation based on certain records (notibly tax, census and probate records). It is not clear yet if all the references to "Ephraim Sisco" refer to one man or more.

Ephraim Sisco first appears in the Little Creek Hundred tax lists in 1765 so he was probably born sometime before 1750. He appears continually in Little Creek Hundred trhough 1783 when his name is struck off the list.

In 1788 an Ephraim Sisco is mention in the will of John Durham Sr. It is not clear if this is the same man or another (possibly a son??). Ephraim Sisco also appears in the 1800 Kent Co. Census records in a household with 11 free colored persons.

Ephraim is not mention in the 1790 reconstructed Little Creek Hundred Census but John Sisco, Sr is listed and he is called " the son of Ephraim" .

John and Benjamin Sisco are called "brothers" by Yates who claims the two brothers left the state of Delaware sometime prior to 1836 and fled to the state of Ohio. So, if this is the same John (unfortunately there were several), then perhaps Benjamin was also the son of Empraim. A "John Sisco" was also mentioned in the estate papers of Amelia Sisco Hansor, called the sister of George and William. Also William and Benjamin appear in the estate records of Jeremiah Concilor in 1811.

So, given all the above possible connections it is possible to suppose the following children for Empraim Sisco.

  1. George Sisco
First appears in the Little Creek Hundred taxables in 1783 so probably born before 1768. Charle, John and Ephraim appear on the same list in the same area. The will of George Hansor, written on 10 Nov. 1814 mentions a brother, William and a sister "Emela Hanser".
  2. Benjamin Sisco born before 1770 in DE and died after 1840, probably in PA
  3. John Sisco born before 1772 in DE and died ???
  4. Amelia Sisco - born before 1790 and died in 1814 in Kent co., DE
  5. William Sisco - born before 1790 and died in 1829 in Appoquinimink Hundred, New Castle Co., DE
